Being an Ishanian I got an opportunity to attend 86 hour class during my management course. It was a great opportunity for me to proof myself in certain field and to see where I stand. This 86 hour class is conducted in our institute i.e. Ishan Institute of Management every year for developing student’s overall personality and communication skill. These classes are very much beneficial for the students as it is a continuous 86 hour class in which students can judge their capabilities, potential, will power and their ability to bear stress during these 3 days. These classes were conducted by Mr. Pramod Athaley (management guru). He is a very enthusiastic personality and this enthusiasm creates interest throughout the class which helped us to cope up without feeling tired. Different activities are performed by all the students. These activities include presentations, games, case studies and meditation. He told us that 20 minutes meditation is equal to 6 hour sleep of which we were not at all aware. We also did this meditation of 20 minutes in between the class. These different types of activities were performed by the students and groups were made depending upon the number of students and each group decides a name for his/her group. Then throughout the classes marks were allotted to the individual and as well as to the group for their performance, behaviour, concentration, punctuality, attentiveness and overall participation in the programme. I decided to attend this 86 hour class due to some reasons. These reasons are to see how much stress I can manage and to see my will power. I really believe in a saying that “Where there is a will, there is a way.” It means that if you think that you can do a particular task and have firm determination in yourself then no one can stop you.
The class started about 6:00 am in the morning. First of all, we all had an introduction round with our mentor and after that groups were made and along with that a team leader was selected for each group. Our session started with a game just to check our skills and after that the class started. Then Mr. Pramod started his lectures on different management related topics and showed us different videos on “How one should prepare himself to give presentations”. The name of the 86 hour class for the year 2010 was titled as the “DESERVE BEST”. The objective of this 86 hour class was - to help to equip the participant to met the changing requirement, to teach the participant about the new techniques and ways of performing the assignments, to prepare participant for higher level tasks and challenges. The main aim of these classes was to improve the knowledge, skills and competencies through structured training. Emphasis was given on functional and behavioural discipline. This programme really improved the capability, capacity and confidence of each and every student and this was done through in residential training case studies and role plays. Along with knowledge related to management and corporate world he also gave us spiritual knowledge and told us the importance of yagya, yoga and udyoga in our life. He told us that we should have big head like Shri Ganeshji that inspires us to listen patiently to new ideas and suggestions and narrow eyes point to deep concentration needed to finish tasks in hand well and quickly, the long nose tells us to poke around inquisitively to learn more, and the small mouth reminds to speak less and listen more. He also gave us Vedic training in management.
Formal competence= factual knowledge+ theory and skills.
Real competence= Formal competence + development of consciousness.
He told us that we should all have a positive attitude in our personality because positive attitude always provide good results. He also gave us certain corporate lessons like-To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting vey very high up, not everyone who gets you out of the shit is your friend, not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy, and when you are in deep shit keep your mouth shut. He told us that what the importance of one is. He gave some very good examples that at 99 degree water is hot but at 100 degree it boils, an athlete wins the race only by a sec. Its only one degree that separates the good from the great. He delivered some speeches on attitude, personality and told us the importance of meditation and yogya in our life and these motivational speeches really changed the entire participant to a certain extent and the way of thinking and working. “If we want to achieve what we never had e have to do what we never did.” During the session apart from lectures we were also shown some clippings, presentations and we have to interpret what we understood from that particular clipping. Any student was randomly selected and had to brief that what he/she understood from that clipping. Some games were played in between just to create interest in the class and so that we all don’t feel sleepy and bored. Marks were allotted on all these activities. This was all about our day session and after taking the dinner the night session started. We were also provided with very light food. During the night hours each one of us along with our groups has to go through the case studies and solve them and make presentation on that. To solve these case studies and making presentation was our night assignment and in the morning each group has to represent the presentation and on that presentation each group was judged. We all were also given a mantra by Mr. Pramod for body and mind fitness and to develop concentration. In this way all the students who participated in 86 hour class really achieved many things and saw a change in his/her personality. The entire participant successfully completed these classes and really felt different and proud after it was over. After the 86 hour class was over we all were also ready to extend those classes because that session was really very interesting and we all enjoyed each and every moment of that.
After that closing ceremony was there and awards were distributed to the participant depending on their capabilities and their performance in that session. Different awards were distributed like best group, best participant, best leader, best presentator etc. I really enjoyed this session and it is my advice to each one you who is reading this article that if you will get the opportunity to attend these 86 hour classes in any sphere of your life never be behind because you will really gain something which will help you in future and in your career. It will help you in grooming your personality and to know certain truths of life of which you all might be unaware. This was my view for the Deserve Best and if I will ever again get a chance to participate I will always be ready for that.
